How to install Dirory

It takes about two minutes. You need SketchUp 2019 or newer on Windows or macOS, an internet connection, and a free Dirory account.

Find it under Help → About SketchUp (Windows) or SketchUp → About SketchUp (macOS).

Step by step

  1. 01

    Create a free account

Sign in — Continue with Google

  2. 02

    Download the extension

Get Dirory for SketchUp, Revit and Rhino → Download for SketchUp

  3. 03

    Open Extension Manager in SketchUp

In SketchUp, open Window → Extension Manager.

  4. 04

    Install the RBZ

Normal for plugins outside the Extension Warehouse. Choose Install / Yes. The file comes from dirory.com over HTTPS.

  5. 05

    Restart SketchUp

Restart SketchUp, then open Extensions → Dirory → Open Library Panel.

  6. 06

Open the panel and sign in

Sign in with Google from the panel's account button.

Updating

You do not need to reinstall by hand. When a new version is published, an Update badge appears in the panel. Click it, then restart SketchUp — the plugin replaces itself and keeps your settings and sign-in.

If something goes wrong

SketchUp says the extension is not signed
Normal for plugins outside the Extension Warehouse. Choose Install / Yes. The file comes from dirory.com over HTTPS.

Restart SketchUp. If it still does not appear, open Window → Ruby Console and check for a red error, then reinstall the RBZ.
The panel opens but shows no products
Sign in first (the account button). Browsing is free, but the catalogue needs the cloud connection.
“HTTP 0” or cannot reach the server
Extensions → Dirory → Test Connection shows the exact cause. A network filter or firewall blocking the connection is the usual reason.
Sign-in opens a browser page that will not load
The browser step must reach dirory.com. If it cannot, the panel keeps waiting — check the address in the browser window.
SketchUp 2018 or older
Not supported. The plugin needs SketchUp 2019 or newer — the Ruby version it uses only ships from 2019, and on 2017/2018 it will not load. Upgrade SketchUp; your Dirory account stays the same.

Revit

Install Dirory in Revit

You need Revit 2024, 2025, 2026 or 2027 on Windows, an internet connection and the same free Dirory account you use for SketchUp. Revit 2024 is stable; 2025–2027 support is in beta. Installing takes about two minutes and needs no administrator rights.

  1. 01

    Sign in to Dirory

Create a free account or sign in on dirory.com. It is the same account as for SketchUp.

  2. 02

    Download the Revit add-in

On the download page choose "Revit 2024–2027" (or "Both"), then click the download button. You get Dirory-Revit-Setup-<version>.exe, one installer for every supported Revit. Chrome may warn that the file isn't commonly downloaded: Dirory for Revit is new and not yet signed. Open Chrome's downloads (the arrow or ⋮ next to the file) and choose Keep. Get Dirory for SketchUp, Revit and Rhino

  3. 03

Close Revit and run the installer

Close every Revit window, then double-click the downloaded Dirory-Revit-Setup .exe (if you downloaded "Both", extract the .zip first). If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway: Dirory for Revit is new and not yet signed.

  4. 04

    Choose your Revit versions

The installer ticks each Revit 2024–2027 it finds on your PC. Click Next, Install, then Finish. It installs for your Windows user only, so no administrator password is needed. To update later, download and run a newer installer the same way.

  5. 05

    Start Revit and allow Dirory

Start Revit. Revit may warn that the add-in "Dirory" is not signed by a known publisher; choose Always Load so it does not ask again.

  6. 06

    Open the Dirory panel

Open or create a project, go to the Dirory tab on the ribbon and click Library. The panel docks on the right; you can drag it anywhere.

  7. 07

    Sign in from the panel

Click the account button at the top of the panel. Your browser opens; choose your Google account, then come back to Revit. The panel signs in by itself.

  8. 08

    Use it

Click a material card, then click faces of walls, floors, ceilings or roofs to paint it; press Esc to finish. Dirory creates a Revit material with the real texture size and tile pattern. For a cost estimate open Usage, click Measure model, then Estimate cost (RAB) with Dirory Pro.

Where to find it afterwards

If something goes wrong

Revit says it cannot run the external application "Dirory" (FileLoadException)
Windows blocked files from the older .zip download. Download the installer from dirory.com/download and run it: the files it installs are not blocked.
There is no Dirory tab in Revit
Close Revit and check that %APPDATA%\Autodesk\Revit\Addins\<year> (your Revit version) contains Dirory.addin and a Dirory folder. If not, run the installer again and make sure your Revit version is ticked. If Revit asked about the add-in and you chose Do Not Load, restart Revit and choose Always Load.
The panel is blank or asks for WebView2
The panel needs the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime, which comes with Windows 11 and with Revit. If it is missing, install it from Microsoft (search "WebView2 Runtime"), then restart Revit.
A face cannot be painted
Revit only paints faces of host elements such as walls, floors, ceilings and roofs. Faces of some families and curtain panels cannot be painted; assign the Dirory material in the type properties of the element instead.
I see only materials, no models
Models appear once a product has a Revit family (.rfa). Families are being added; materials work today.
Which Revit versions are supported?
Revit 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027. One installer covers them all and installs the build made for each Revit version it finds. Revit 2024 is stable; 2025–2027 support is in beta. Revit 2023 and older are not supported.

To uninstall, open Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps, find Dirory for Revit and choose Uninstall. Your sign-in and settings are kept.

Rhino

Install Dirory in Rhino

You need Rhino 8.36 or newer on Windows, an internet connection and the same free Dirory account you use for SketchUp and Revit. Rhino 8 shows its version under Help → About Rhinoceros. Installing takes about two minutes.

  1. 01

    Sign in to Dirory

Create a free account or sign in on dirory.com. It is the same account as for SketchUp and Revit.

  2. 02

    Download the Rhino plug-in

On the download page choose "Rhino 8", then click the download button. You get dirory-<version>-rh8_36-win.yak, a package for Rhino's Package Manager. If Chrome warns about the file, open Chrome's downloads (the arrow or ⋮ next to the file) and choose Keep. Get Dirory for SketchUp, Revit and Rhino

  3. 03

    Install the package

Start Rhino 8 and drag the downloaded .yak file from your Downloads folder onto the Rhino window. Rhino installs the package without showing any message; that is normal. If dragging does not install it, close Rhino and run this in a Command Prompt instead: "C:\Program Files\Rhino 8\System\Yak.exe" install "<path to the .yak file>".

  4. 04

    Restart Rhino

Close Rhino and start it again. Rhino loads Dirory when it starts.

  5. 05

    Open the Dirory panel

Type Dirory in Rhino's command line and press Enter. The Dirory panel opens as a tab next to Layers; you can drag it anywhere.

  6. 06

    Sign in from the panel

Click the account button at the top of the panel. Your browser opens; choose your Google account, then come back to Rhino. The panel signs in by itself.

  7. 07

    Use it

Models: click a model card, then click in the model to place it; press Enter to finish. Each product becomes a block you can place again from the Block Manager or with Insert. Materials: select objects, then click a material card (or click the card first, then select objects and press Enter). The texture is applied at the product's real tile size; switch the view to Rendered to see it.

If something goes wrong

Rhino says "Unknown command: Dirory"
Restart Rhino after installing: Rhino loads new packages when it starts. If it still does not work, open Tools → Options → Plug-ins and check that Dirory is listed and enabled; if it is not there, install the .yak again.
Rhino will not install the .yak file
Dirory for Rhino needs Rhino 8.36 or newer. Check Help → About Rhinoceros and update Rhino with Help → Check for Updates, then install the .yak again. Rhino 7 and older are not supported.
The panel is blank or asks for WebView2
The panel needs the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime, which comes with Windows 10 and 11. If it is missing, install it from Microsoft (search "WebView2 Runtime"), then restart Rhino.
A placed product is not where I clicked
Rhino uses the product file's own origin as the insertion point, as SketchUp does, and some product files are drawn away from their origin. Move the block where you want it with Move.
The material looks stretched or shows no texture
Switch the view to Rendered to see textures. Materials with a known tile size are mapped at that real size; a few materials have no tile size and stretch over each surface.
What does the Quantifier show, and where is the BoQ (RAB)?
In Rhino, the Quantifier lists the Dirory products in the model with how many are placed, and the Dirory materials with the area they cover. Measured quantities by element (walls, floors) and the BoQ (RAB) are not in Rhino yet; use Dirory in SketchUp or Revit for those.

To update, install the newer .yak the same way and restart Rhino. To uninstall, open Rhino's Package Manager (type PackageManager), find Dirory under Installed and choose Uninstall, then restart Rhino. Your sign-in and settings are kept.
